Why Garmin Fenix 6 watch bands make the Difference

Why Garmin Fenix 6 watch bands make the Difference

One of the main features of Garmin Fenix 6 that differs from the previous Fenix models is the convenience when changing to standard watch bands (without a Garmin adaptor). Garmin Fenix 5 or the previous model takes two star screwdrivers to loosen the pins. When it comes to Garmin Fenix 6, which comes in two FAT spring bars, it provides flexibility when you want to change to NON-Garmin watch bands, you now have thousands of choices.

Hands-On the Garmin Fenix 6

The Garmin Fenix 6 is perhaps one of the current best multi-sport smartwatch money can buy, bringing performance and adventure tracking as well as GPS-based mapping to just about every outdoor activity you can think of.

The Fenix 6 comes in a variety of different models depending on what you’re looking for in a multi-sports smartwatch. The standard mode is the Garmin Fenix 6, which comes in a 47mm case size.

Just below the standard model 6 would be compact Fenix 6S, which comes in a slightly more compact size that has a smaller 42mm case and thus a slightly lower battery life. There’s also a Pro version of these models available, which adds music compatibility, maps and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Above that, there’s the more powerful Fenix 6X, which has slightly better battery life alongside music, Wi-Fi and maps as standards.  Despite the size of the Garmin Fenix 6, it is actually 2 grams lighter than the previous Fenix 5 model. Other than the weight difference, another small change you'll find is the layout of the heart rate sensors. Garmin’s upgraded from a 3 green light + feedback sensor to a 1 green + 1 green/red + 2 feedback sensors.

Another visual change you would notice apart from a few labeling adjustments is the screen, where the Fenix 5 has a 240×240 resolution and the Fenix 6 now has a 260×260 resolution.

The Fenix 6 gets plenty bright at night with the backlight, and is easily viewable in direct sunlight thanks to the “sunlight-visible, transflective memory-in-pixel” display Garmin uses. However, do not expect the Fenix 6 to have a display equivalent to an OLED modern smartphone, but rather a color and contrast of a laptop from the early 2000's.

Garmin Fenix 6 is overall an all-round nicer sports watch to live with with better battery, more control over battery modes and improved data. While you can save some money going for the standard Fenix 6, the addition of maps alone is reason to go for the Pro version.

Whichever model you decide to go with, rest assured that you'll get one of the best sports watches you can wrap around your wrist. If you got a Garmin Fenix 6 on hand, start to wear it outside of the box today!

The ability to change staps is ok if you sit on the couch.. but if you are active you seriously risk loosing your watch. Both my original garmin (fenix 6 pro) strap kept coming off, so I bought a sports strap that looked strong but broken when out kitesurfing – now the watch is at the bottom of the ocean somewhere. Suggest only using fixed straps with no quick connect thing.

Hi AL,
Thank you for the message.
It works on Garmin Fenix 3, Fenix 5 Smartwatch as well, but you need two Torx screwdrivers (upside and down) to unlock the Garmin pins, then you can replace them with FAT spring bars as we discussed in this post.
I hope this can help.
Thank you

Is it possible to use these fat springbars on previous models also?
