As the hands of time glide smoothly over the exquisite dials of the Seiko Presage Cocktail Time watches, one can't help but be transported to an elegant world where the precision of watchmaking and the sophistication of high-end cocktails blend seamlessly. These timepieces are more than mere instruments of time; they are homage to the craft of the bartender, with each model in the series encapsulating the essence of a cocktail hour's allure.
Seiko has long been renowned for its innovative approach to movement design, and the Cocktail Time series is no exception. Each movement within these timepieces is carefully curated to embody the distinct personality and essence of the cocktails they represent. From the lively cadence that captures the zest of a vibrant citrus cocktail to the refined rhythm that mirrors the complexity of an aged spirit, Seiko has masterfully imbued these movements with the unique characteristics of their namesake libations. Let us explore the "Heart" that brings the Cocktail Time series to life, where the art of watchmaking meets the artistry of mixology.
The Seiko 6R15 caliber is a true workhorse, known for its robustness and reliability. Found in some of the earlier Cocktail Time models, such as the highly regarded SARB065 "Cool," this movement boasts a 50-hour power reserve, which is quite generous considering its price point. The SARB065 Mechanical x Shinobu "Cocktail Time Cool" was the result of a 2010 collaboration with famed Japanese bartender Shinobu Ishigaki, designed specifically as a Japanese Domestic Model (JDM). It was one of three distinct Cocktail Time models based on Ishigaki's signature cocktails, with the other two being the limited edition "Sweet" and "Dry" variants.
The image shows famed Japanese bartender Shinobu Ishigaki on the left, and the SARB065 Mechanical x Shinobu "Cocktail Time Cool" watch on the right, showcasing the classic "Automatic 23 Jewels" marking at 6 o'clock, distinguishing it from modern Presage models with their "Presage Automatic" dial inscription.
Found in the iconic SARB065 "Cool", the 6R15 became a benchmark for reliability and value, offering a smooth 21,600 bph and comes with 23 jewels. The movement is encased within a 40mm stainless steel case and is protected by Seiko's Hardlex crystal. Watch aficionados appreciate the 6R15 for its manual winding capability and hacking function, which allows for precise time setting.
The SARB065 "Cool" is accompanied by two models, the SARB066 "Dry" and the rare limited edition SARB068 "Sweet," offering a glimpse into Seiko's diverse cocktail-inspired creations.
The SARB065 is often associated with the Seiko Presage line because it shares many of the aesthetic and quality traits that define Presage watches. However, the SARB065 was not originally branded or marketed under the Presage name when it was first released in 2010. The Cocktail Time watches, including the SARB065, gained such popularity that they became a cornerstone for the future Seiko Presage line, which officially took shape later. It was only after the success of these early models that Seiko incorporated the Cocktail Time concept into the Presage series, which is known for its combination of classic design, mechanical watchmaking, and value. So, while the SARB065 is retrospectively considered part of the Presage family due to its design and spirit, it was not branded as a Presage Cocktail Time upon its initial release. The Presage name would become more prominently associated with these watches in the years following the release of the SARB065, especially when the line was expanded and more formally branded in 2016 and beyond.
