New 2020 Seiko Prospex Alpinist, SPB117 (SBDC091), SPB119 (SBDC089), SPB121 (SBDC091), and SPB123 (SBDC093)

To start the year off with a bang, Seiko released four new Alpinist models which now fall into the Prospex line, SPB117 (SBDC091), SPB119 (SBDC089), SPB121 (SBDC091), and SPB123 (SBDC093). The prominent upgrade on the new Alpinist models is certainly the 6R35 movement that was initially introduced at Baselworld 2019.

Besides the 20 additional hours of power reserve storage, hand winding, 28,800 bph beat rate, re-introducing the date magnifier “cyclops”, which was added back on to the sapphire glass, along with an anti-reflective coating, you’ll find the new Prospex “X” emblem at the 6 o’clock which replaced the “Diashock 23 jewels”. Last but not least, the clear display case back shows the entire new movement.

In addition, the case diameter has increased from 38mm to 39.5mm, and the case height from 12mm to 13.2mm. These changes make the watch appear slightly more substantial on the wrist.

Between the four new Alpinist models, the most recognizable of the four is the SPB121, which has the green sunburst dial, and a mixture of gold colors on the numbers, indices, as well as the hands, which closely resembles its predecessor, SARB017.
