Authentic Green-Inspired Seiko Watches and Watch Strap Combinations
July 24, 20236 min read
There's something exceptionally appealing in green watches and watch bands. And it's no wonder there are so many possible combinations available. Seiko has early recognized the inspirational power of green and allowed their engineering teams freedom to implement their visions in special collections over the years.
In return, watch strap designers recognized such a vision and created an ample collection of green-shaded straps for a number of Seiko watches. This article features some of the most memorable combos of Seiko watches and green-flavored strap designs.
Seiko Prospex "Sea Grapes" Turtle SRPD45K1 Limited Edition and Seiko Prospex SPB153 Captain Willard 2020 edition, the 2nd 6105 reissue
Continuing a more than half-a-century-long tradition, Sea Grapes and Captain Willard come with all the features characteristic of Seiko's infamous Prospex family. Those include stainless steel case, Hardlex and Sapphire crystal glass, Automatic movement, and a 200m water resistance, to name just a few. Sea Grapes has a black one, and Captain Willard has a green dial, as seen in the picture below.
Both versions are nicely complemented by green watch straps, the former with nylon and the latter with a canvas strap, which gives these Prospex versions a touch of both a casual and elegant feel, respectively.
So many words to describe a single watch?! It seems excessive, but it really is not, and anyone wanting to buy one of the limited 300 pieces available should use every word from the title to ensure they got the right one. Why is this so?
To avoid possible confusion. There are several Seiko watches that feature at least a part of this Baby Marinemaster's name. However, this one is a JDM that is sold exclusively at Seiko Dreams Square in Tokyo. And it comes with a dial in a unique shade of emerald green that mirrors the color of the willow trees that the streets of Ginza District abounded decades back when Seiko's first shop was opened.
Since this Baby Marinemaster beauty is all about green, it only comes naturally that a corresponding green watch strap would be its perfect partner. And it found one in a dedicated Khaki green canvas watch strap.
Seiko King Turtle Prospex SRPE03K1 Black Diver Ceramic Insert
Here's another iconic Seiko Prospex family member. Nicknamed King Turtle for its shape and dominant 45mm width presence, this stainless steel, sapphire crystal glass diver features a bezel with a ceramic insert, LumiBrite lume, and guarantees a 200m water resistance.
It's a somewhat conservative design, and, by all means, masculine looks are nicely complemented and discretely softened when accompanied by a green-striped military-style strap.
SARB line inspired case design, with a combination of brushed and polished surfaces, and a matte black dial featuring Alpinist cathedral hands covered by a domed mineral crystal glass, make the SZSB006 a unique looking genuine beauty of a watch.
Its creation and manufacturing are the result of a collaboration between Seiko and their TicTAC retailer, marking 35 years of their fruitful cooperation. It looks even more exceptional when combined with a Nylon strap in military green color.
Now, this is a particularly interesting watch. It's a 400 pieces limited Seiko Solar Prospex edition, co-branded with an NYC-based Freemans Sporting Club. The latter is a renowned American menswear manufacturer, which makes this interesting watch a joint effort of two companies known for producing items of impeccable quality.
And appeal, as can be seen from the picture below. Black dominates the design of this 200m water-resistant Scuba Diver; different shades of white used for dials, hands, and bezel markings give a nice contrast, while the dark green strap completes the overall color matchup.
Seiko Fieldmaster SBDJ023 LOWERCASE Limited Edition Freemans Sporting Club
Here's another solar power watch with a number of neat features. The Seiko Prospex Fieldmaster SBDJ023 LOWERCASE Limited Edition Freemans Sporting Club UF73-1SR002 is one of the five limited-editions of the eight Fieldmaster watches created through a collaboration between Seiko and Japanese design firm LOWERCASE to three Japanese retailers : BEAMS (SBDJ031), Freemans Sporting Club (SBDJ023 and SBDJ025), United Arrows (SBDJ032), and Journal Standard (SBDJ033). As the Freemans Sporting Club model, it is exclusively available through that retailer and limited to only 300 pieces. This solar-powered quartz watch features a 44mm black stainless steel case with protective shroud and is water resistant to 200m.
The dark green dial was inspired by the lush green fields and forests around Freemans Sporting Club in New South Wales, Australia. It has applied indexes and markers as well as a rotatable countdown bezel that can time events of up to an hour. As with the other Prospex Fieldmaster LOWERCASE models, it comes with a rugged NATO-style fabric strap designed for professional field use in the original box. Numbered individually between 1-300, this distinctive watch commemorates the partnership between Seiko and Freemans Sporting Club.
The dominant presence of White Alpinist embodied in its large 39.5mm diameter stainless steel case with a transparent back cover leaves no doubts that it's primarily designed for those who love masculine appearance in watches. The white dial with large indexes demands particular straps to make a fitting pair.
Green may not be the first, nor an obvious choice for that matter, when it comes to suitable color for this Prospex. However, being a synonym for the color of nature, it comes as no surprise that green combines well with white. What is more, they turned out to be a particularly elegant pair.
Seiko Prospex Solar Chronograph SSC807, 140th Anniversary Limited Edition
Seiko designers found inspiration for this remarkable limited edition marvel in the mesmerizing deep green of the ocean surrounding the Iriomote Island in Japan. It features zirconia ceramics as bezel display material, a golden second hand inspired by the color of sunrise, an anti-reflective coating on the interior of the sapphire crystal glass, and boasts a 200m water resistance.
The emerald green suede leather strap deepens the overall green magic of this unique diver, making it a genuine eye grabber.
There are many reasons why green watches and watch straps are appealing to watch aficionados. Some like the boldness and uniqueness of the various possible color combinations. Some are into military style and favor olive green or camouflage shades. Others simply want something that's a nuance different than the usual single-colored match-up between the color of the watch and its strap.
Whatever the reason may be, both Seiko and watch strap manufacturers are always keen on listening to what their fans are interested in and eager to make their wishes come true. As a result, there are so many options to choose from that green watch and strap fans can find the perfect combinations for themselves at any given moment.
